About 40 of us, from 4th Georgetown (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, parents and leaders) all met up this morning at St. Andrews United in Georgetown and hiked down to Hungry Hollow to Clean up some of the Silver Creek that runs through the ravine as part of the TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.
The Town of Halton Hills had mentioned that they had done a clean up back in April and they weren’t too sure if it would be worth it. We are glad we went ahead!
In total we picked up approximately 1000 lbs of garbage, mostly in and around the bridge, and a large amount fished right out of the creek! There were chandeliers, about 10 bikes, a motor cycle, 4 shopping carts, typewriters, computer monitor, 45 gallon drums, 2 GT Racers (sled), and a lot of other garbage.
It was hard work and we sure felt it the next day, but we had a lot of fun, worked hard and did some good for the community and the environment.
