What an awesome day for the walk this year! We got ourselves up ready and off, arriving at Streetsville Memorial Park around 8:30am. Shortly after our arrival we realized we forgot all our pledges!!!!! Luckily, they have the online numbers at the registration desks and we were able to send in the rest after the walk!
Very cool.. I mentioned to one of the staff that it would be nice to be able to purchase t-shirts for those that don’t get over the $100 in pledges.. eg. Aaron. Well he said “Just a minute,” and went and found one just the perfect size for him! You should have seen the smile, getting his own Walk Shirt!
Christopher also lucked out, they’d run out of his prize (> $250 received a jacket) so he was bumped up to a back pack! No one at his school has one like that now! lol
We had a bit of time and were able to walk around to a couple of tables see what was around this year. Met up with one of the Diabetes Educators, Val, from Christopher’s Clinics, it was great to see her out this year!
Berta was sooo happy she made the full 5km, she was worried this year as she’s had a really rough spring, but she did it!
Along the way Aaron took a minor spill, the gravel did a nice number on his knees so we got to meet the St. John’s Ambulance First Aider who cleaned him up and gave him a couple band-aids.
It was a great day all around, a lot of fun. This is the first year we didn’t have anyone walking with us. Hopefully next year we’ll be able to get a good crew to join us on the walk! Let me know if you’re interested! We start gearing up the team and the fundraising in February!
HUGE Thank you to everyone who sponsored us for the walk this year and in the past. Your donations go to a great cause, the JDRF, and are used to fund research that is going somewhere, making people with Diabetes live longer, and soon, very soon we can see a cure being found. We are sooo close. On top of that your donations mean a lot to us personally. Thank you!
